CollegeACB.com to Offer Free Anonymous College Discussion
With the recent closing of Juicy Campus, students nationwide were left scouring the internet, in search of an honest, and engaging, web-based community. They have found the Anonymous Confession Board.
The Anonymous Confession Board, or the ACB, is quickly becoming the central hub of college campuses around the country, giving students the freedom to voice their opinions and ask questions about any facet of college life. It is the campus center, the dorm room, the cafeteria, and the lecture hall, all combined into a single, easily accessible forum where everyone is invited to converse openly, without fear of reprisal or reprimand. From sexuality to politics, from keg parties to concerns about course selections, the ACB is a website that helps build community and engenders the open exchange of information.
A relative newcomer, the ACB was originally developed by recent college graduates Andrew Mann of JHU and Aaron Larner of Wesleyan University. It is now owned and operated by Peter Frank. The site is devoted to promoting actual discussion, not provoking salacious posts or personal attacks. Its mission statement reads: “The College ACB or College Anonymous Confession Board seeks to give students a place to vent, rant, and talk to college peers in an environment free from social constraints and about subjects that might otherwise be taboo."
Such a philosophy sets the ACB apart from Juicy Campus, a website that fostered superficial interactions, often derogatory and needlessly crude. By contrast, the ACB consistently hosts a higher level of discourse—while still making room for the occasional gossip post.
Other differences between the ACB and the now-defunct Juicy prove more than superficial. The ACB employs an innovative user-moderation button, which allows for easy yet unobtrusive regulation. Any post that might be threatening, libelous, or otherwise illegal, is immediately brought to the webmaster’s attention. In addition, the ACB provides a more personal experience for the user, as it is organized into individual college boards. And unlike other college boards, the web space is not overcrowded with ads. Lastly, it is worth noting that the ACB has embarked upon an expansion phase—several new features will be unveiled in the coming months.

ReplyDeleteCan you go fuck your anonymous bullshit because it degrades campus community by making cowardice individuals unaccountable for their slander and provides no means for recourse for those accused or defamed by anonymous users. Serious allegations have been made on your website, those of which that are blatantly untrue and thus slanderous. You need to reform your policies on anonymous posting because it creates a community of backstabbing and cowardice people and does not hold people accountable for their words. This site does not express free speech because free speech is held accountable for it's uses. If I steal something for my religion, I'm still stealing. If I lie using free speech, I'm still lying. Accountability must be in your system or your system should be abolished. Prepare for a possible class action lawsuit if it does not.

Rent is a diarrhea soup of a musical. The cast is all a bunch of stereotypes. And the score don't get me started on the score. If you want to see real modern musical theatre. theatre that will touch your soul as well as your crotch. I recommend the musical adapatdation of Dan Brown's seminal work Digital Fortress. I cried twice it was so beautiful. The costumes were so fresh and they changed the setting to early 90s NYC and filled it with tons of homosexuals with syphilis. It broke barriers. If you get a chance check it out at Omaha's community theatre. It is so good and the lyrics are groundbreaking like early Tribe Called Quest when lil scrappy was still tearing that shit up. "Consistently hosts a higher level of discourse?" Have they read through any of what is posted? Most of it is, in fact, "derogatory and needlessly crude."
They claim to have "an innovative user-moderation button, which allows for easy yet unobtrusive regulation." I have yet to see this. The report button, if that is what they are referring to, is useless. As is sending them an email and filling out their "delete this thread" form.
They go on to say that "any post that might be threatening, libelous, or otherwise illegal, is immediately brought to the webmaster’s attention." What exactly does "immediate" mean to them?
What I simply cannot get my head around is how they neglect to notice that most of the text on this page alone is highlighting what an abhorrent site this is; how it creates conflict where it need not be; and how it seriously requires an actual moderator.
How can they honestly claim to read people's complaints on specific posts when they cannot even respond to 4-month-old criticisms made directly to their site?

In that sense, the purpose for this website has failed miserably so drastic changes are called or better should be shut down. The press release above is complete garbage, because the majority of this website continues to host derogatory statements. Colleges should ban being associate with a board on this site because it is absolutely degrading.

You need to put up a page for UT Arlington, this school is horrible. The president makes a big deal about our upcoming ban on smoking all over the campus while crime and alcohol abuse are far more of a problem. Rather than put up security cameras you are told to stay in at night and watch your surroundings. Late night drunken parties are commonplace. If you drive a car there make sure that its old and dont't keep anything of value in it. The president neglects the students that are here now in an effort to get TIER ONE status in the future and he's tearing down alot of the lower rent properties in the area to do it, it's like he's trying to make this into a rich white kids school and I honestly believe that religion is too diverse to be on campus. He treats students like this is a high school, we're supposed to focus on school spirit while getting screwed over like the use it or lose it meal plans. I'm begging my parents to get me out of here but evidently it was more about education when they went here now it's about the presidents dream of having a tier one school, we need a tier one president if this is going to be a tier one school. I don't think that Mr. Spaniolo is fit to be a high school principal much less president of a college.

As a parent , I can not imagine how these children( because they are still children) that are being written about in such a deragatory manner are dealing with this. This is truly the worst of the worst and is run by the dregs of humanity. Every parent should email the chancellor of their childs college and request that this website be blocked since they are using the schools email system to get to the children. I did. I am also emailing my governor, my senators, congressmen, president and any company who advertises on this site. Children have committed suicide because of the slander being said about people on this site. I am calling my attorney to see if a class action suite is possible against this company. Someone has to be held accountable and everyone does not have the right to talk about anyone anonymously.

The president here is spending all sorts of money to try to be a tier one president but he wont spend money on little things like security cameras to help solve the many crimes around campus. They re striped parking lots to get more people in allready overcrowded and oversold parking lots so if your car isn't broken into your doors gets dents all in them if not worse.

Everything is about the president becoming a tier one president in the future , he doesen't care about the students that are here now, he even makes appearances as a cardboard cut out because he wont make the time to have his picture taken with students. It's like he thinks he is a movie star and I've heard that he doesen't even have enough pride to live in Arlington, he's so hated here. His own wife couldn't trust him but were supposed to and have all this school spirit. I didn't move away from my parents to have James Spaniolo become my father and make descisions for me and my friends that have nothing to do with education. Save your money and go to a real school, this place is nothing but an overpriced daycare where you need to hire security to walk yo to your car.

ReplyDeletePlease take this site down, it's hurting innocent people and causing unwanted and unnecessary hurt among groups. girls are getting their feelings hurt from people posting things that are not true and guys egos are just growing. Its immoral and anyone who posts on here should be ashamed of themselves.

It’s all there, if you are the type of person who can’t get enough of what the press writes in the supermarket tabloid rags; but now it about people in our own schools. But wait! Isn’t there a law about cyber-bullying? The National Crime Prevention Council’s definition of cyber-bullying is “when the Internet, cell phones or other devices are used to send or post test or images intended to hurt or embarrass another person. StopCyberbullying.org, an expert organization dedicated to internet safety, security and privacy, defines cyberbullying as: "a situation when a child, tween or teen is repeatedly 'tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise targeted' by another child or teenager using text messaging, email, instant messaging or any other type of digital technology." Other researchers use similar language to describe the phenomenon.” Our freshman and possibly sophomore are teens and this site IS CYBER-BULLYING. Posting slanderous message on this site is a crime. It’s time action was taken to close the site down.

ReplyDeleteI agree this site has many negative aspects to it however, It also opened my eyes to what was really going on as far as my relationship.This site allowed me the chance to vent to a gal whom was after my bf and also stalking me on another website. I think it is terrible however for those that suffer immensly from undeserving gossip but I still cannot help but be grateful- I did find some truths here and feel they saved my relationship. Was not looking for drama or stds-I feel had I not stumbled across this site ,both would have been the ultimate ends.
ReplyDeleteTaking down College ACB would do absolutely nothing to help a suicidal person. These are people in need of serious help. If a person uses something said here as a reason to kill themselves they are just going to keep finding other things. My nephew had a suicidal girlfriend whose suicidal bouts were cured by expensive vacations. If anyone has a friend that would kill themselves over anything they might read here, get on the phone and start making calls hard and fast to get your friend help! Suicide is not a rational answer to any problem, people are not going to back up and make a clear and easy path for suicidal people to walk through life. People like this frequently kill people around them before they committ suicide. What if I'm working at the same place with one of these peoploe and they get a bad review? Am I suposed to find some peace in my last moments alive thinking "at least they tok down College ACB". As for experiance here, I've had three friends and my father comitted suicide and they are the only people to blame for thier deaths. Not a single one had a reason to take thier lives, they left me.

It's not a different site. It's the SAME concept. Don't you know that people have killed themselves over things said about them on websites like these? You, the creators, should all be ashamed of yourselves. How do you sleep at night?

ReplyDeleteAfter viewing what you like to call a "discussion board" I have never been more disgusted. I have known about juicycampus and such since I was in High school, now a Jr in college these web sites have taken a toll for the worst. It sickens me to see that there are people out there that would actual come up with the idea of an annoymous "discussion board" which is really only used to make fun of other students because they are to afraid to say it to ones face. I feel as if you should take great consideration as to completley deleting discussion boards that take things to far or should moderate what it said. It rips aparts and creates many emenies within small schools such as the University of Hartford which I have never seen such hurtful and gross things said. for your benefit before it hurts you, you should delete as many discussion boards of small or even large schools before its to late.

ReplyDeletethis website is an AWESOME idea, people can actually get answers to questions theyd be afraid to ask without anonymity. but i read the press release, and it says that this website is NOT meant to breed personal attacks. every post under my college's board is either a) a persons name, followed by many replies saying "slut" "she/he's so easy" or b) questions like "who is the easiest to get with". i know this is not the websites intention, and i totally love this site, but please monitor some of these boards. how would you feel if it was you being attacked? (im only posting this b/c the "report" button doesnt work, at least for my schools board. if you fix that, it should be fine)

ReplyDeleteAh summertime and the days are getting longer once again. I say now is as good of a time as any my friends to take a look back at all the fun we have had this year. Remember when Cliff passed out in the bathroom and we all thought he was dead so we took turns dismembering and hiding his body? Neither do I wink wink! And who can forget that time we all hired a prostitute so that our friend "Shorty" could finally lose his V card. Well Shorty won't be forgetting since the bitch gave him herpes lolz! I think it would be fun if we all took a moment at wrote our favorite memory from our time here on the College ACB press release. I'll start it off. My fondest memory of the last year was probably finally reconnecting with me biological father Phil. I can't believe it took 38 years and five court orders but we finally found each other even if it was in the conjugal visit trailer of the county jail. Until next time Adios and go Uruguay!
